Invalid VAT number
Having issues with a VAT number? Our app checks VAT numbers using VIES and the UK VAT check. If a number is invalid, contact the tax authority in the relevant country.
Own VAT number invalid?
We use the European Union's VIES service and UK VAT number check. These are real-time services that check the validity of VAT numbers based on the information in the databases of European member states, Northern Ireland & the UK.
In other words, when you add a number, the data is checked in the database of the relevant EU member state, Northern Ireland or the UK.
If your customer's VAT number is invalid according to our app, contact the tax authorities in the customer's country.

Check the VAT number
If our app indicates that a VAT number is invalid, first ask your customer whether he has submitted the number correctly (number of characters, country code, etc.). After checking, does the number still remain invalid? Then ask your customer to contact his tax authority to correct the data in the national database. Only national tax authorities can adjust VAT numbers.
Check your own company details
Discover that your own company details are incorrect or outdated? If so, contact your tax authority yourself to correct it. Some tax authorities in the EU require you to make such a request in writing or with a particular form.
Register for transactions with other EU countries
Certain EU countries and Northern Ireland require you to register separately for transactions with other EU countries and Northern Ireland. They also have a separate VIES database for such VAT numbers. As a result, a valid VAT number may not be validated by VIES because the trader has not submitted or registered the number for transactions with other EU countries or Northern Ireland.
Contact the tax authorities
Contact the tax authorities in the country in which the VAT number was issued. Using the country code before the VAT number, you can identify which tax authority is involved. The data will be corrected according to the national procedures of the relevant EU country or Northern Ireland.
